This course features basic skills that a novice needs to know to become a functioning user on an OpenVMS systemm, including:

Logging in and out of an OpenVMS system

Setting up terminal characteristics

Issuing DCL commands

Creating and editing text files

Sending messages to other system users

Writing a simple command procedure

Course objectives:

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

Log in and out of an OpenVMS system
Construct and enter DCL commands
Construct and use OpenVMS file specifications
Describe and move around directories
Create and edit text files using the EVE editor
Use DCL commands to manipulate and find files
Use the Mail utility to communicate with other users
Use the Help utility and the OpenVMS documentation set to get help about the OpenVMS system
Describe and use UIC protection codes
Customize the working environment through the use of logical names, symbols, and key definitions in a simple login command file
